Since I was a child, I knew design was my thing. When I received coloring books, I always preferred the ones that didn’t tell me which colors to use. In high school, I used to draw clothing designs and I learned how to sew my own creations. However, I never dared to study fashion.
Later, I enrolled in Marketing and Advertising, another of my great passions. I must be the only person in the world who actually sits down to watch TV commercials. 🙂
I didn’t learn much: in post-communist Bulgaria, there were hardly any examples or references in the field of advertising. My marketing professor would always say, “In Germany this… in Germany that…”, but it was difficult to see how it applied in our reality.
I have worked in different fields, both employed and self-employed. Still, I felt I hadn’t truly found my path, so I emigrated to Spain.
After trying different jobs, when I became unemployed, I enrolled in a Web Design course. That was it! I had found my calling. Of course, you don’t learn everything in six months. I understood how coding languages work, that sometimes it’s more practical to use web design tools rather than writing code from scratch, and that there are many additional skills required to work professionally in this field.
I spent years learning wherever and however I could. Today, I work full-time in this profession. I develop complete brand image strategies and work as a freelancer. Thanks to my experience, I can now choose the clients I collaborate with.
